Lighting Plan – ‘Classic Contemporary’

Hey friends!

If you follow my Instagram you know that I work on a LOT of New Construction Homes. I started in 2007 doing colour Consultations and have since worked as a Model Home stylist, Sales Agent, Project Manager and Design Consultant!

Building a new Home is very exciting time for my clients, but it can also be extremely stressful for a number of reasons.

When building a house it’s not uncommon to have to select hundreds (Yes, HUNDREDS) of items. Items like: exterior brick and stone materials, hardwoods and coordinating stair stains, cabinet materials and hardware, countertops, plumbing, floor and wall tiles, paint and trim colours, interior door styles and if you can believe it, the list goes on and on!

Needless to say there is a LOT to cover. Maybe that’s why Lighting sometimes gets pushed to the bottom of the list, or as something promised to be addressed after moving in (or simply forgotten completely).

Lighting is a HUGELY impactful part of your home that requires and deserves special attention. While I DO offer In-Home Consultations, I thought this would be a really helpful way to at least get yourself started and get those wheels turning!

Contemporary Lighting GuideDining or Breakfast  |  Bathroom Vanity  |  Bedrooms  |  Powder Bath (on either side of the mirror) |  Kitchen Island  |  Master Bedroom (if vaulted ceilings)  |  Two Storey Foyer or Single Storey Foyer (not shown above)

This particular ‘Classic Contemporary’ lighting plan is meant to be used in combination with table + floor lamps as well as potlights, where possible. You can even step it up a notch and add items like dimmers, automatic timers or even smart bulbs that you can control using an APP — but that choice is yours!

I really enjoyed doing this segment so I plan to continue this series Monthly moving forward!!

If you have any requests on next month’s style or feel, don’t hesitate to let me know below!
