My Living Room!

Hi friends!

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! It’s really starting to feel like Spring out there and I am LOVING every minute of it!

Today on the blog I’m sharing all of the details of my LIVING ROOM with you!Wow, time sure flies! We moved into our new home almost one year ago! If you missed some of my early IG stories about the build last year, I’ll try and dig them up and repost/highlight them on my Instagram ASAP.

To summarize; we live in a three-storey, detached home in downtown Hamilton. Infill lots are not common downtown, so ours is fairly narrow.  Because of this, the builder had the cool concept of going UP!

The floorplan was designed off of a Manhattan Brownstone design, only detached and of course with a Garage. Because of this, our first and second floor may seem slightly unconventional: the Living Room is located off the Foyer and Hall on the Ground Floor.

There is also a Powder Bathroom on this floor, as well as our Mechanical Room/Storage Room since we do not have a Basement — which is also rare for new builds in Ontario. The second floor is home to an Office (or third Bedroom), one of two 3pc Bathrooms in the house and our open concept Kitchen/Breakfast area.LR

Because our Ground Floor is built on a concrete slab, I knew in the Winter it would be a little on the cooler side; we also have an extra-wide patio door that leads to our backyard. For this reason, I wanted LOTS of cozy textures like rugs and plush throw pillows, blankets and good quality drapery.

A few months before moving I had ordered the Designed2B Dez 2-piece Sofa/Chaise set from The Brick. What I loved about the combo (which can be almost entirely customized) was that it was EXTREMELY comfortable, the Pewter colour was the most perfect shade of a warm + Dove grey and my favourite part was it was MADE IN CANADA!

Side Note: I also ordered our Bed from The Brick, but I’ll share those details if I ever get to a MASTER BEDROOM blog! (Shout out #MyBrickHome)

Because it was a new-build, it was a blank slate! We (I… lol) really loved the white walls, trim and doors. I thought it made the already airy space, super light and bright. Our ceilings on the first two floors are 10 feet and our third floor (where our Bedrooms and Laundry are located) is 9 feet. We also have about a 20 foot foyer (with a big window) that you can look over from the Kitchen — aka, LOTS of natural light!

A lot of the existing furniture we had was both Modern and Black, so it actually worked out perfectly.LR 2

I chose a mixture of Gold and Silver accessories throughout, such as candle holders, photo frames and coasters. I loved the idea of all Black but I wanted to bring in some warmth and dimension to the items that would be sitting ON the already Black furniture. The textured items in the room like the couch, rug, pillows, curtains and blankets are White or a Warm (Dove) Grey which go well.

The Living Room was especially important because it is the space where we put up our Christmas tree in the Winter, get to our backyard and BBQ in the Spring/Summer, and watch most of our TV/movies together.

Overall, I’m very happy with how it all came together. To me it feels warm, inviting and comfortable which is what I aim for throughout the entire home I think!

It’s funny to think that it’s been almost one year since being here. It just goes to show that a house truly is NEVER done!

I hope you enjoyed a little sneak peak into my Home!  I have linked many items (or similar) and where they can be purchased on the SHOP page.
